THE 100,000th visiting supporter to attend a Catalan Dragons home Super League match was a Warrington Wolves fan.
John Woodward, aged 56, of Fearnhead, Warrington, was among the legions of Wolves fans who made the journey to Perpignan in the south of France for Wolves’ Super League clash with the Dragons at Stade Aimé Giral in July 2010.
He was presented with souvenirs from the French club to mark his efforts as a follower of rugby league.
The ceremonial milestone was a part of a Dragons weekend of celebrations to acknowledge the club’s achievement of completing ‘five years in Super League’.
There was a slide show on giant screens in the Place de Republica town centre square highlighting prominent players and matches since their Super League birth in 2006.
Earlier in the day, the club successfully hosted a paella eating party in the city centre park close to the Castillet, with more than 1,000 Wolves and Catalan Dragons supporters coming together to tuck into the fine seafood fayre in a successful Guinness Book of World Records bid.
Highlighting the harmony and comradeship, it was a wonderful sight and sound as fans chanted the songs of the other team’s clubs - Dragons hoards blazing into a chorus of Warry, Warry, Warry, Warry, Warrington, while Wolves supporters hit back with Cat-a-lans, Cat-a-lans, Cat-a-lans.
