FISHING PLATFORM FIRE: MEMBERS of Penketh and Old Hall Angling Society were dismayed to find one of their fishing platforms had been set on fire.

The blaze ravaged the small jetty at the Whitegate Pool, on Livingstone Close, in Old Hall.

Club secretary Paul Bryan said: “At present we have no witnesses to what could be mindless vandalism or arson. Nor do we know exactly when the incident happened.

“It appears that the fire was in a wheelie bin as the remains were still visible on the burnt deck structure.

“The pool area is also surrounded by trees and houses. If the fire had spread the matter could have been even more serious.”

Cheshire Police are investigating.
