TRAVELLERS in Great Sankey have been served with an eviction notice.
They were camped outside the Royal Mail depot in Lingley Mere.
Around 30 caravans had been outside the depot. It is believed they had arrived for a wedding.
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "Royal Mail served notice on a group of travellers living on land next to the North West Regional Distribution Centre, Orion Boulevard, Great Sankey.
"Our agent is in discussion with the travellers with a view to them moving on as soon as possible."
A postman, from Great Sankey, who walks to work told the Guardian that he had to get past caravans blocking the pavement.
He said: "You get abuse off the kids. It's quite intimidating.
"Travellers have been before and the cars in our car park have been damaged before.
"Bricks come over the fence. We have a guy sat in a van watching them 12 hours a night now."
When travellers move on to private land, there are two options available. The owners can either agree a leaving date with travellers, or obtain a court order for eviction. If travellers are on council land, the police can direct them to leave if there is a suitable pitch available on a caravan site elsewhere in the local authority area.
