TEN young people and two council youth workers have jetted off to Gambia this month as part of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.
The group, from Warrington, have called themselves G12 and have written the slogan giving gold to the Gambia'.
They are hoping to help build a wall for the new African Duke of Edinburgh Skill Centre and refurbish a school while they are out there.
The project was set up in July 2005 and the group has been learning about the country and its culture.
They funded the trip themselves, raising £2,000 each through various fundraising events and sponsorship.
They will be back on September 6 armed with lots of stories to tell, and a return exchange is already on the cards.
