GREENALLS is going to resubmit its housing plan because more work needs to be done.

The brewery plans to sells it land for redevelopment and move to another site in town. Lingley Mere, Omega and the former Eddie Stobart site in Woolston have been mooted.

Council officers have told Greenalls the housing plan was likely to be recommended for refusal if it went before the planning committee by the September 20 deadline without more agreements and analysis being completed.

A spokesman for G&J Greenalls said: "Because it's a very large site and there's a lot of work to be done, what G&J and the council have agreed is that due to the volume of work, they both need more time and will come back together in November."

G&J wants outline planning permission so a developer can buy the land and build 250 to 300 houses at the main site on Loushers Lane, 10 in the car park opposite and up to 30 on land at the Ship Inn in Walton.

The council wants 20 per cent of them to be affordable homes and this has been a deterrent for the four developers who have shown interest in the project.

There has also been dispute over whether Greenall's highways analysis shows there will not be an adverse impact on traffic.
