POLICE in Cheshire believe goverment cuts will have a ‘detrimental effect’ on crime levels, according to a survey carried out by the federation.
Officers said morale has fallen after budget cuts, the possibility of a reduction in police officer numbers and how this will impact upon the service.
The survey found 92 per cent believe there will be a decline in service delivery in Cheshire due to planned budget cuts.
Simon Roberts, chair of Cheshire Police Federation said: “The message from police officers in Cheshire is loud and clear.
“They feel they are being hit from all sides by this government who are imposing a 20 per cent cut on the service which will undoubtedly lead to increased levels of crime and a poorer service for the public in Cheshire.
“Cuts of this magnitude are criminal and will undoubtedly lead to a poorer service for the residents and businesses in Cheshire.”
Mr Roberts added it was ‘imperative’ residents made it clear to politicians the cuts needed to be reconsidered.
