POLICE say a text claiming a child had been abducted from the Cockhedge Shopping Centre in Warrington is an 'urban myth'.
They say they have not had any reports and that the message is a myth.
The text has been sent round people in the town this afternoon.
A police spokesman said: "Cheshire Police has been made aware of a text message being circulated in the Warrington area claiming a child had been abducted from the Cockhedge Centre.
"Cheshire Police has had no report of any such incident and believe that this is an urban myth.
"Parents are urged not to be alarmed by the information, which has not been corroborated by any official source.
"If anyone has any information about the origins of the text message please contact police on 0845 458 0000."
