Britain’s local media is in a unique position to celebrate the individual character of our different regions, reinforcing that very special sense of place so important to us all and certainly important in creative writing, writes Adele Parks, bestselling author of women’s fiction.
Many writers’ first steps into the public eye are through the pages of their local paper, offering excellent encouragement at the start of their literary career.
Local newspapers are also able to highlight national and global events such as World Book Day, giving vital publicity to good causes whilst emphasising the relevance to the local area.
They campaign on issues important to the communities they serve, such as the Talk-Up Campaign in the Evening Gazette last year, which I was proud to be part of.
Local newspapers play an essential part in the communities they support and their input into our lives is something that we should all celebrate.
