AN Orford pensioner who spent years mixing with film stars at Pinewood Studios has celebrated his 100th birthday.
Warrington-born Tom Humphries, who formerly lived at Arnhem Crescent, enjoyed his birthday surrounded by family at the Pinewood Hotel in Slough, where he now lives in a care home.
Relatives travelled from South Africa and daughter Dorothy came from Australia to celebrate the day on Wednesday.
Great niece Diane Graham, of Dorothea Street, Orford, said: “It was a brilliant day because it was the first time we had all been together for such a long time.”
Mr Humphries was a soldier for a while and joined the lifeguards in 1930. He served alongside future comedian Tommy Cooper.
After marrying his wife, Jessie, in 1936, he moved to Slough where he spent most of his married life. The couple were together for 64 years.
He started working at the studios in 1958 as a sergeant commissionaire, looking after stars such as Roger Moore and Barbara Windsor. The Carry On icon sent him a photograph and 100th birthday wishes.
Mr Humphries, who has two children, six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, was also used as an extra and appeared alongside Elizabeth Taylor.
After retiring from Pinewood he worked at Royal Ascot until 2000.
Mr Humphries visited Warrington and Orford over many years, The keen rugby fan, who had a trial with Wolves aged 17, received a signed rugby shirt for his birthday featuring the number 100.
