WENDY Turner, who lives in Runcorn, is an assistant matron in scheduled care and surgical services.
The mum-of-two’s role involves improving patient experience.
She said: “Making a difference to patients’ lives makes this job all the more rewarding. Our number one priority is to make patients feel better.”
Wendy completed her nursing training at Whiston Hospital in 1983 and then moved to Halton Hospital in 1990 where she worked as a staff nurse.
The 46-year-old then came to Warrington Hospital five years ago as a bed manager before being appointed assistant matron.
To help boost her experience Wendy completed an advanced diploma at Chester University in management and teaching.
She said: “I think the qualification helped me get the promotion. It has also made me more autonomous and it makes me feel like I can care for patients in a holistic way.
“This is the most interesting role of my career and the most enjoyable, it’s rewarding and I’m proud to do it. I am part of a team and this is vital to what I do.”
Wendy, married to Stephen and mum to Emma and Bradley, aged 11 and 13, has also been busy developing education packages for trainees so they can learn procedures every step of the way, from referral to discharge.
Her own duties include quality assurance, improving nursing and ward standards and liaising with patients to make sure they are satisfied with their treatment.
Earlier this year the hospital recognised her hard work with an Excellence, Dignity and Improving the Quality of Working Lives award.
