“WE’RE back in business” was the message from MP Andy Burnham following Labour’s election victory in Warrington.
The Shadow Secretary of State for Education wasted no time visiting triumphant councillors on the morning that the results were announced.
Speaking at the Town Hall he said: “I started my political career in Warrington in 1985 so as a place it’s very important to me. I’m proud to be here with a new generation of councillors.
“The results show Labour is regaining support. Now we need to win back places we’ve lost, such as Warrington South.
“The outcome for Cameron and Clegg is devastating but they are implementing changes people didn’t vote for like reforming the NHS, taking VAT to 20 per cent and increasing tuition fees.
“Now we’re back in business but we’re not getting carried away. We’ll work to make sure the team here has all support it needs. We want them to be a voice during tough times until we have a general election, which I think will be sooner rather than later.”
