FIREFIGHTERS have praised the quick-thinking of staff at a Great Sankey nursing home after a blaze in the building’s hair salon.
Nobody was hurt during the incident at Green Park Nursing Home, Southwold Crescent, which saw flames start in a hood dryer after an electrical fault.
Damien White, blue watch manager, said: “It was lucky as there were three people having their hair done in there about five minutes earlier but the salon was empty when the fire started.
“The fire alarms alerted staff who carried out a full evacuation which went very well.
“The staff were excellent and potentially saved a lot of lives.”
The flames had almost burnt out when crews arrived last Thursday at 1.05pm.
The salon was severely damaged but smoke damage elsewhere was limited as staff shut the fire door to prevent it spreading to other rooms.
Firefighters used fans to clear the home of smoke and checked all the residents were ok before leaving.
