GETTING on her marks and ready to go is fundraiser Donna Butler who is gearing up for a new 5k race in the town.
The Legacy Event in Victoria Park is aimed at anybody who wants to raise cash for any charity during the June 12 challenge.
Co-op shop worker Donna, from Bank Quay, has signed up for the run with her partner Ian and son Mark, aged 22, and has chosen to raise cash for Mencap after it was made charity of the year by her employers.
The 46-year-old said: “My son Mark has learning difficulties so Mencap is a cause that is very close to my heart and important to me.
“We’ve been training for the race together but it’s been hard work trying to fit it in around work.
“In the past we have done half marathons to raise money for St Roccos and RNIB but I’ve not been running as often since then.”
As Co-operative Warrington’s ‘charity champion’, Donna is in charge of raising as much cash as she can in the town’s stores through Easter egg tombolas, quizzes, boat races and cycling between stores in a 14 mile bike ride.
Donna’s Fearnhead Cross store, Insall Road, has already raised £1,000 for Mencap, which works with people learning disabilities and their families.
Donna, who has worked for the company for 20 years and been a fundraiser for four years, added: “I love running.
“It gets you out and is a good way of getting fit, toned and gets rid of stress.
“My partner is a big inspiration when it comes to running.
“He helps me and encourages me.
“I’m hoping to complete the course in 30 minutes.”
The run starts at 10am and entry is £10. A children’s fun run is also taking place.
