DARESBURY danced to the tune of Creamfields this weekend as more than 45,000 revellers flocked to the festival's first year in Cheshire.

Amid the packed dance tents, even busier bars and stomach-churning fairground rides Creamfields was getting ready to unleash its most diverse main stage line-up yet.

After DJs Xpress 2 warmed up the party-mad crowd, Merseyside rockers The Zutons were next up, with front man David McCabe reassuring the crowd "we may have guitars but don't be scared".

And they weren't offended by the guitar-wielding group, giving them a fantastic reception, with everyone singing along to recent hit Valerie.

Urban outfit Gnarls Barkley disappointingly cancelled last minute due to illness.

But this didn't dampen festival goers' spirits and thousands swarmed to the main stage to watch Goldfrapp's tremendously sparkly show.

The sultry singer was surrounded by bizarre dancers - some clad head to toe in lycra, with others donning enormous glittering horses heads - as her gorgeous voice washed over the crowd.

Then headliners The Prodigy took to the stage with a bass heavy set including all their hits from Outer Space to Poison to Spitfire. The performance was strangely muted with Maxim appearing agitated with the audience. Not their greatest but it's always a privilege to see the dance legends live.

When the main stage lights dimmed, the Cream, Tidy and Beatdown tents partied into the earlier hours, with the last revellers filing out of the field at 6am.
