A HIGH Legh woman said she feels very lucky after bogus workmen left her home empty-handed.

The woman was one of three people who fell victim to the pair last Wednesday.

All three incidents involved men claiming to be from the water board.

The two men, who claimed they worked for Dyno-Rod, called at the house in High Legh and said the water needed turning off because of a blocked pipe nearby.

"One man told me to turn the tap to the right so many times and then to the left, which I thought was unusual," said the woman, who does not want to be named.

But the 80-year-old got suspicious when one of them started quizzing her.

It was when one man said they should run the water in the bath that she noticed the other man had disappeared.

"I went through every room to check if anything had gone," she said. "Luckily it was all in place.

"I consider myself very lucky".

The first happened at 1.10pm on Walton Lea Road in Walton.

Two men came to the door claiming there had been a burst pipe outside. Asking to try the water, one man managed to get upstairs while the woman was distracted.

The next took place at 3.30pm in Kildonan Road in Grappenhall.

A man aged about 40 came to the door of an elderly woman, again claiming to be from the water board.

He also asked to check the water upstairs.
