THE cost of building the bus station has hit almost £10m, and it opened almost two months behind target.

Warrington Borough Council paid for the work to complement the redevelopment of the Golden Square shopping centre.

A council report puts the delay down to logistical problems in working within a confined environment and delays in the production of certain design information'.

Current council indications are that it could inflate the total project cost by £750,000 to £9.2m.

Early council estimates had put the cost at £7m to £8m.

Savings will have to be made from the transport budget to free up the extra money.

It is proposed the town centre fund provides £50,000 and £25,000 from the transport budget for 2007/8.
