POLICE will draft in 500 officers to cover Creamfields.

That will be in addition to normal staffing so Warrington itself will have its usual level of policing. The force had no difficulty getting the volunteers.

The event is ticket only and will be guarded by a fence, security staff and police.

"Our message to people is please come and enjoy yourselves, it's going to be a fun event," said acting Insp Andy Chandler, who has been in charge of the six-month plan for the site.

He has the stressful job of co-ordinating the operation from Silver Control' at Warrington Police station, while officers will be briefed at a forward staging point near the site.

Sniffer dogs will be at the entrances and officers will also carry out random searches and police will also use hand held metal detectors.

This will be Cheshire Police's first large music event and, depending on how the event goes, it could affect the decision to hold similar events in the future. The force has been working with Merseyside Police, which patrolled the event in Speke for the past seven years.

Insp Chandler said: "Merseyside officers have visited the site and they are confident our plan will work."

He said people should expect an influx of traffic and added: "We are just urging drivers to be patient.

"We are confident the traffic plan we have in place will cope."

The police have a large presence on site, though Insp Chandler would only say their style of policing would be to respond proactively' to incidents. There will be an onsite police station for people to report crime.

THE event organisers have made promises in respect of noise and litter according to Warrington Borough Council. They say they will: Manage noise levels in accordance with the Noise Council's code of practice on environmental noise control at concerts (1995). Clean the site and surrounding areas by noon on Sunday. Before the event, they will undertake a condition assessment video survey of the site and surrounding areas so that litter is cleared and the grass verges are reinstated to their previous condition.
