WARRINGTON has given such a warm welcome to youngsters affected by Chernobyl that more than ever will be making the trip to the town next year.

The annual scheme sees 10 children from Mogilev, Belarus come over to the borough for a four-week stay as the time in this country boosts their immune system.

But, organisers say that because they are receiving more and more requests from host families they will be able to double the number of kids who make the trip next year.

This year's group of 10 and 11-year-olds have just returned home after trips to St Helens glass museum, Warrington museum, Fordton baths, Woolston baths and the zoo at Walton Hall Gardens.

Colin Frodsham, one of the organisers said: "There were lots of other visits during the week and the weekends were free for the host families to entertain. Many family BBQ's were enjoyed with the children thoroughly enjoying themselves.

"The four weeks flew by and now we are already planning next year's trip. Because of a lot of publicity during the summer we feel we must double the amount of children because of the requests we have had from prospective hosts.

"So, we'll bring 20 children next year who will gain better health from an improved immune system."
