ROLL up, roll up for one of the country's most unusual "sporting" contests.

Because Warrington stages the inaugural UK Straw Bale Rolling Championships tomorrow, Wednesday.

Apple Jacks Farm in Stretton will be the venue for the new extreme sport.

Competitors from across the north west are expected for the event which will see them attempt to roll a four-foot straw bale, weighing in at 200 kilos, around a 100-metre course.

The competition is a knockout event with heats, semi-finals and a grand final.

The winner will be awarded the coveted title of UK Straw Bale Rolling Champion 2006, plus a trip for two to Chester Races.

And you could still take part!

Competitors must be aged over 16 and the entry fee is £5. Proceeds will be donated to MacMillian Cancer Relief.

Apple Jacks Farm is also famous for being home to the Amazing Maize Maze.
