WESTBROOK Library staff made the short trip to Asda Westbrook on Friday for a storytelling session to encourage interest in reading among pre-school children.

The library team from Westbrook Crescent went to the supermarket as part of its local celebration week.

The superstore has been encouraging local food producers to get on to the shop floor and give customers a taste of their delicacies. A search for a local food hero was open to anyone with a passion for a local product - including shoppers and suppliers - and nominations could result in the hero' product being sold in ASDA stores UK-wide.

Other activities taking place as part of the local celebration event included cookery demonstrations, health checks and awareness sessions from local charities, emergency services, councils and community groups.

Police officers were at the store to give home security advice along with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, while Warrington Collegiate provided information on their range of courses.
