READERS have been racing to tell us about the graffiti grot spots around town.

Earlier this month Warrington Borough Council launched a three-month campaign to rid the streets of unwanted graffiti and nominations for areas to be cleaned up have been flooding into the Warrington Guardian.

Top of the list of residential concern is the village of Culcheth, for which we have received a number of clean up requests. Areas the residents want to see blitzed include the village centre, Linear Park and Twiss Green Lane.

One nominee of the village said: "It is an eyesore for people walking across the common in Culcheth and an embarrassment for the decent people who live in the village."

The council has appointed a special team that will be out and about in the borough over the coming weeks with a graffiti cleaning machine to tackle the problem areas.

Current council policy is that resources are used to clean up graffiti on council-maintained land and public places but while the blitz is taking place, the team will also clean graffiti from private property and land.

Other grot spots identified by residents include: the children's swing area in St Elphin's Park and the twiggeries at the back of the park and the back part of the cemetery, Currans Road in Longford, Station Road in Padgate, Central Avenue in Orford, Hawleys Lane in Dallam, Brookland Street in Bruche and Ladywoods in Wesbrook.
