THE two massive town centre developments will now go head-to-head in their public inquiries.

The hearings into the schemes for Time Square and Winwick Street will be heard at the same time, the planning inspectorate has announced.

Both look to regenerate run-down town centre areas with a mix of houses, shops, bars and apartments.

Winwick Street, which is based on land opposite Central Train Station, which extends to Tanners Lane, would have an 11-storey tower.

Time Square, which is planned for the shops and land outside the market, would have an outdoor screen like ones in Liverpool and Manchester.

Both schemes could affect the town centre and have similar proposals -significantly, both want cinemas.

A date for the joint inquiry has yet to be set, but is likely to be this autumn at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
