FIREFIGHTERS have thanked residents who raised the alarm for a fire in a Warrington park, preventing any damage to the land.
Birchwood fire station's Blue Watch were called out to Peel Hall Park on Blackbrook Avenue on Saturday just after 9.30am.
A Ford Fiesta hatchback car had been driven into greenery in the middle of the park, set alight and abandoned.
Firefighters put out the fire and damped down the surrounding greenery.
A spokesman for Blue Watch said: "We wish to thank those people who raised the alarm early enough to enable the fire crew to get there quickly and prevent the fire from spreading out of control."
