MOBILE phone users in Howley could suffer a short dip in service after Vodafone was told it could no longer use a mast.

The phone company is currently served by the mast on top of the derelict building behind Harry Fairclough Construction off Howley Lane.

But Vodafone was given notice to quit the site by November 14 as developers hope to win a planning appeal that will let them build flats and houses on the surrounding site.

A public inquiry into the plans is being held in September.

Vodafone believes it has found a new site for a mast and hopes to have it in operation by the end of November, though a company spokesman said services could in theory' be affected during the break.
