RIVERSIDE Retail Park is introducing mother and baby parking spaces this week after a rash of complaints.

Work began on the 18 spaces yesterday, Wednesday, and is expected to be completed by the weekend.

The town centre retail park, which has branches of Homebase and Borders, has had several complaints from parents using disabled spaces since parking fines were introduced in May.

The company which manages it, Prudential, saw there was a need for the spaces and has previously offered a refund to at least one person who complained, a grandmother shopping with two 20-month-old grandchildren.

Tony Collins, from Templeton Drive, in Fearnhead, also recently contacted the Warrington Guardian about the issue.

He said: "When I parked I had two children under six years of age with me and I was going in the adjacent pet shop for some heavy items of dog food.

"There where no unrestricted parking spaces available anywhere near the shop and I was only a few minutes.

"Until I received the ticket I wasn't aware that I could be fined for parking on this spot. This is also the first and only time I have come across a penalty off the highway for parking on a disabled spot."
