THE Green Party has put forward a candidate for the Poulton north by-election to be held next month.

Stockton Heath resident Michael Jackson will be standing against candidates from a number of other parties at the September 7 vote and he says he is a keen environmentalist.

He said: "This is a real opportunity for the people of Warrington to vote for a positive political party.

"The Green Party did really well in the recent local election in May, which was the first time it had stood in Warrington.

"I had exactly the same number of votes as the Labour candidate in that election, one more vote and we would have beaten them! So voting Green is not a wasted vote!"

He added that, if elected, the Green Party aims to improve the local environment by organising cleaning up of litter and reduce anti-social behaviour by improving facilities for young people.

The seat became available after the death of Labour councillor Albert Clemow, earlier this summer.

The other candidates: Kevin Bennett (Lab), Francine Elizabeth Leslie (Cons) and Sharon Wilson (Lib Dem).
