POLICE are planning to keep traffic running smoothly during Creamfields.

More than 80 of the 500 extra officers being drafted in to police the event on August Bank Holiday weekend will take charge of traffic.

Inspector Dave Price, leading the traffic team, said: "We hope this plan will make motorists' lives easier while the event takes place and we would ask drivers to work with the police and to be patient so that everyone can continue going about their business and enjoy their weekend."

The 45,000 revellers opting to drive to the festival are being asked to follow road signs and not use satellite navigation systems.

There will be two main car parks open at 10am. People should only use these designated car parks and not attempt to park elsewhere as restrictions will be enforced.

Both car parks are within a 10-15 minute walk of the main site.

l The north car park, for traffic coming from Warrington, will be located off the A56.

l The south car park, for all other traffic, will be located off Daresbury Lane.

Toilets and refreshments will be available at the car parks to cater for anyone who arrives before the event starts at 1pm.

There will be 19 Police Traffic Points at junctions and roundabouts in the vicinity.

Officers will also control junction 10 of the M56 in a bid to reduce motorway traffic, while a continuous shuttle bus service will be put on by the organisers to transport festival goers to and from the site from outlying areas.
