A SMELLY bin problem at smart new flats in Latchford looks set to be resolved.

Residents of Ashfield Gardens, of Knutsford Road, have had to put up with intermittently overflowing communal bins for months.

And the problem became especially unpleasant, with piled up side waste and overflowing rubbish, during the introduction of the controversial closed lid' bin policy.

But after pressure from the borough council's environmental health team, the developers look set to resolve the root of the problem - the bin areas were just not big enough to cope with the amount of waste.

A spokesman for housing managers, Trinity Estates, said: "We have had a meeting with the developers McInnerny Homes and they have agreed to increases the size of the bin store."

The problem was at its worst last week. One resident aid: "It stinks and there are flies everywhere." Another said: "It's disgraceful, why should we have to put up with this?"

John Rowson, head of waste services at the borough council, said: "In the case of Ashfield Gardens, all but two of the 1,100 litre containers were emptied as normal.

"They were left unemptied for health and safety reasons relating to access issues with the bin store.

"This problem has been drawn to the attention of Trinity Estates, who has responsibility for waste management on the site."
