TWO Lymm youngsters were so fed up with the lack of play facilities in the village, they decided to take matters into their own hands!

The pair decided that if they wanted more activities in Lymm, they would design their own playground.

But these aren't just pipe dreams.

Because the boys first took their idea to Clr Sheila Woodyatt and now it is being discussed by Lymm Parish Council.

Aaron Lee, aged 12, and Jack Chiltern, aged eight, want to develop the May Queen field next to the Bridgewater canal bridle path.

Aaron, from Orchard Avenue, said: "Our plans are very simple.

"We have decided to have a play pen including a slide, a roundabout, a climbing frame and some swings for the small children."

The youngsters also want to see a mountain bike dirt track as well as a basketball, football pitch and astro-turf pitch.

They presented the plans to July's meeting of Lymm Parish Council in the hope that something will be done.

And parish clerk, Yvonne Cook, has vowed to find out if anyone can get grants to finance the installation of play equipment on the field.

Clr Woodyatt said: "It is marvellous to see young people like this getting involved.

"We need to support our young people and all their ideas - I very much hope that something can be done to help.

"We need to encourage the youngsters who are making such a positive contribution."
