THE introduction of cover versions of easy listening hits at a Woolston convenience store is causing quite a stir among staff.

Shoppers at the Co-op Late Shop on Holes Lane contacted the Warrington Guardian to say that staff were up in arms about the changes to Co-op Radio, the in store station.

They told our reporter that staff had signed a petition demanding that the new policy be overturned so that staff and shoppers could listen to original versions of the hits.

But, mysteriously, the store manager denied that a petition had ever been in existence, despite the phone calls from customers saying they had seen it.

A United Co-operatives spokesman said: "Co-op Radio plays in all United Co-operatives' food stores. A trial is currently taking place whereby the songs played on the radio station are not those by the original artists.

"During this trial period, employees who work in the stores have been asked to feedback their comments on the change. All the feedback will be analysed and action taken if appropriate."
