THE age of 11 is younger than most to hit your first hole in one but for Ben Massey his ascent in the golf world has been a real family affair.
The youngster hit an ace at his first time of playing on the ninth hole of Warrington Golf Club.
But given it was a hole that his great-great-grandfather had a significant role in designing, it perhaps came as little surprise.
The coronation hole (named to commemorate King George VI's crowning) was built in 1936.
Edward Massey, Ben's great-great-grandfather, who was then the club's greens committee chairman, played a significant role in its design and construction.
Over the years it has become renowned in the north west as one of the more popular holes to play.
And the love of the sport has been passed down the generations in the Massey family with the youngster's great-grandfather, grandfather and his father James Massey having all been members of the club.
His grandfather Ted said: "I didn't tell him the significance of the hole before we started playing. He is very keen at sport but we could not believe it. We are all very proud of him."
