IT'S now too late to have your say on proposals to change the face of the schools system in Warrington.

A council consultation on its secondary school review, which is considering closing two schools, came to an end this week.

Council officials are now expected to spend the next few weeks sorting through responses before making a decision over which option to take.

Norma Cadwallader, strategic director of children's services, said: "We have been very pleased with the huge response from schools, parents, residents and stakeholders about the secondary schools review and the consultation events were well attended.

"We are now collating and analysing all of the responses and will prepare a report for members outlining the results of the consultation."

Education chiefs say they need to cut the number of high schools in east and central Warrington from four to three because of a fall in pupil numbers effecting schools in the area.

Under the plans being considered, Padgate could close and move to a newly built school on Hillock Lane along with Woolston High School.

Another option being considered would see the Padgate High School site extended and the two schools amalgamated at that site. The sixth form provision could also be merged or removed.

A decision over which proposal to press ahead with is expected to be considered by members of the executive committee of the council next month.
