Bank Quay Bulls ARLFC under 17s
Through sheer determinations, passion for the game of rugby league and hard work over the past three years, Bank Quay Bulls under-17s have battled through very difficult times to be crowned the North West Counties League Division One champions and reach the final of the Warrington Alliance Cup.
All of the players have good hearts, tremendous team spirit and are a credit to themselves and their families. The team has always been disciplined and has played fair even when pushed to their limits.
In their spare time, the players have raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK. They have found sponsorship from Warrington companies and have brought themselves a pink away kit in support of Cancer Research.
Appleton Tigers women’s cricket team
Appleton Tigers women’s cricket team enjoyed a clean sweep of trophies this year. They claimed the Cheshire league title at a canter and also won both cup competitions – the Cheshire Knockout Cup and the Cheshire T20 Cup – with exciting last over finishes.
Under the management of Sue Barlow, with her daughter Emma captaining the treble winners, the Tigers beat their nemesis Chester Boughton Hall in both cup finals and 11 of the 27 team members represented Cheshire. Appleton Cricket Club first began a women’s section 10 years ago. Over the years, the Tigers have progressed to the first division of the women’s league and won a couple of plate competitions.
King and Queen bowls team
It was another year of outstanding success for perennial trophy winners King and Queen (pictured left) on the bowling greens.
Despite having life made more difficult for them due to a handicapping system, they claimed three major 10-man team titles this year, winning the Challenge Cup, the Silcock Cup and the Friday night first division league.
They also finished as runners-up in the Warrington and District Monday Night League’s first division.
They won three major Warrington Bowls League competitions and were runners-up in another. They lifted the President’s Trophy, the Harry Cross Cup and the 31-up Trophy and reached the final of the Warwick Lowe Trophy Competition.
