THIS best-selling author, TV and radio presenter was born in Warrington.
His literary debut, McCarthy's Bar, won British Book Awards: Newcomer of the Year and was nominated for the Thomas Cook Travel Writing Award.
His second book, The Road to McCarthy, saw Pete span four continents as he attempted to track down his Irish roots.
He also presented the Channel 4 series Travelog and hosted Radio 4 panel show X Marks The Spot.
Sadly, Pete died at the Royal Sussex Hotel, Brighton, on 6 October 2004, aged 51 after being diagnosed with cancer.
