England's international player of the season in 2005 after his international performances against France and New Zealand, Paul Wood returned to his best form in a fine second half of the season. Plays prop or second row and has real speed for a forward. Hits above his weight in defence and has a quick play-the-ball. Signed for the Wolves Academy from Ince St Williams ARLFC, Wood was primarily a prop in his early seasons, proving to be a prolific try scorer in the successful 1999 and 2000 Academy teams. Slenderly built when he broke into the first team as a teenager, he has stayed in the side ever since and his physique has matured with his game over each of the last five seasons. Had broken into the Great Britain squad in 2003, making his Lions debut against New Zealand 'A' before injury ruled him out of the Ashes series. Experienced injury setbacks in 2004 before re-establishing himself as one of the top forward prospects in the country.
