Wiry and agile hooker who shares some of the natural footwork of older brother and teammate Martin, sneaking yards around the ruck with his jinking runs. Has a textbook tackle technique and a good distributor from dummy half, Gleeson settled instantly into Super League from the day he won Sky's man of the match award on full debut against champions Bradford in 2001. Like Martin he spent seven years of his junior career in Australia after emigrating with his family aged eight, and signed for the Wolves Academy, featuring in their 1999 U19 Grand Final team against Leeds. Briefly returned Down Under to play in Cairns, Queensland, Gleeson re-signed for Warrington when Paul Cullen took over as coach in time for the 2003 season. Made his England debut against France at Headingley in 2005. Generally used from the interchange where his speed livens up the tempo of the Wolves attack.
