ROCKWOOD capped a memorable season by winning the summer team knockout competition.

Having already won the Division One Darts title and promotion to the Premier Division, the lads registered an 8-6 victory over Hawk to complete a brilliant treble at the Crosville Club.

In a nervous start to the darts by both teams, players were struggling to find a double in the first two games.

Eddie Hamill took the first for Rockwood and Rob Galloway won for the Hawk and as the first two dominoes games were shared with scores level at 2-2.

Composure was restored in the next two games with Paul Sheehan(Rockwood) and Rob Galloway(Hawk) both winning in 22 darts and Hawk going 4-3 in front as Andy Cooke won in 25 darts.

Rockwood captain John Wilkinson and Herbie Dougherty won the next two dominoes games and then went into a 6-4 lead thanks to Graham Warburton winning the last singles darts game in 24 darts.

Hawk staged a fight back with Pete Galloway and Andy Cooke winning the darts pairs game and Rob Sandland the fifth dominoes game to draw level at 6-6.

However Rockwood hit back and led by 7-6 when Brian Gaffney won the last dominoes singles game leaving the final to be decided on the dominoes pairs games.

Rockwood needed to win one game while Hawk required both.

The duo of Stuart Horrell and Mike Culverhouse duly obliged with a victory over Hawk pairing of Mick Shea and Dave Faulkner to give Rockwood an 8-6 aggregate victory and become the Summer Team Knockout Champions.

Rockwood had found semi-final against opponents Kings Arms A far easier than the final as they raced into a 6-1 lead winning four of the first five darts games and the first two dominoes games.

Kings staged a mini revival with a dominoes victory by Joe Taylor and captain Steve Wright winning the final darts singles game in 26 darts to reduce the lead to 6-3.

But Rockwood proved relentless as they pressed for victory with Paul Sheehan and Fraser Cooper winning the darts pairs and two domino victories by captain John Wilkinson and the decisive win by Brian Gaffney, enabling them to run out comfortable 9-4 aggregate winners.

The other semi-final between favourites Pioneers and Hawk was a nail-biting affair that went right to the wire before being decided on the final dominoes pairs game.

Pioneers got off to an excellent start with Tony Richardson winning in 17 darts and finishing with a 60 checkout whilst John Speed followed this with a 23 darter to give the Pies a 2-0 lead.

Hawk's Andy Cooke pulled one back with a 19 darter while the Pioneers John Cooper won in 21 darts.

With the opening dominoes games shared, the Pies had built a 4-2 lead.

Hawk again reduced the lead thanks to a 23 dart win by Pete Galloway and drew level at 4-4 when Dave Faulkner won the next dominoes game.

Then they took the lead for the first time when Dave Hughes finished the last darts singles game with a 75 checkout winning in 17 darts.

Keith Morgan's dominoes victory put the Pies back on level terms only for the Hawk pairing of Andy Cooke and Pete Galloway to take the darts pairs in 32 darts for a 6-5 advantage, leaving the tie to be decided on the remaining dominoes games.

The first of these was won by Steve Marsh to bring the Pies level once again but Rob Sandland put the Hawk back in front only for the Pioneers duo of Steve Marsh and Dave Tirrell to win the first dominoes pairs game and level at 7-7.

All on the final dominoes pairs game, Hawk captain Paul Ashley and Graham France gave Hawk an 8-7 aggregate win over the favourites and a place in the final against Rockwood.
