POLICE are hunting a bogus caller who called at the home of an elderly woman last week.
The offender knocked on the door of an 81-year-old lady at Lea Avenue, Crewe on Friday afternoon at 1.30pm.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "He said there was a problem with a burst water main in the road and requested that she turn her stopcock.
"She did this but then closed the door to the man, who claimed he was working for the council.
"She has checked with various authorities but there is no record of anyone working in the area."
The man is described as about 20 years old, slim, with short brown hair and was wearing a navy blue suit.
Once the door the door had been closed the man walked off towards the Lynebrook Road area.
Anyone who may have seen the offender should contact police on 01270 500222.
