A GROUP of students from Riverside College Halton had their GCSE results written in the stars.
That's because they were the first people to finish the GCSE astronomy course at the college and six of the 10 students gained A* passes too.
Jane Russell decided to set up the course for budding astronomers after helping her 10-year-old son, Jack, pass the exams last year. The course was run on a part time basis by Jane, who also teaches maths and physics at the college, and attracted a wide range of students.
She said: "I am absolutely thrilled for the students, they have all done so well. Astronomy appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds. The students were aged from early 20s to over 70 years of age, had a lot of fun together and were very committed."
The next astronomy course will start on Tuesday, September 12, with evening sessions every week at the Runcorn campus. Her youngest student will be an 11-year-old who will be studying with his dad after hearing a talk about astronomy by Jane.
