AN exceptional year of results for Halton High School has marked its impressive turnaround in just a matter of a few years.

The school helped 51 per cent of its pupils get five or more A* to C grades at GCSE, a remarkable figure considering just three years ago only 14 per cent of students achieved the same passes.

John Rowlands, head teacher at Halton High said: "We are absolutely delighted with this year's GCSE results, they are outstanding.

"This is a testimony to the hard work, dedication and commitment of both staff and students to achieving the highest standards possible."

The school also had great success with students Ryan Hodgson and Kyle Riley both picking up 14 GCSEs at grade A* to C and Daryl Tyrer, Jake Dougan, Rachel Fielding, Jenna and Lisa Pickston and Elizabeth Evans all picking up 12 A* to C grades.

And schools across Halton also showed signs of further improvement with the overall rate of passes in A* to C grades rising yet again.

This year 52 per cent of pupils gained five or more GCSEs at A* to C, an improvement of five per cent compared to last year and the largest single year-on-year increase the borough has ever seen.

But Halton is still 10 per cent behind the national average for A* to C grades, which stands at 62.4 per cent.
