RUNCORN Town opened their account for the season with 13 goals in two home wins.

The 7-0 success against Chester Nomads on Wednesday was followed by Saturday's 6-1 defeat of West Cheshire League leaders New Brighton Reserves.

Town took a much-deserved lead against New Brighton in the 25th minute.

Adam Carden beat two defenders down the right before cutting inside and laying a perfect pass into the path of Craig Dewhurst, whose shot rebounded off a defender. Carden reacted quickest to fire the ball home.

With just a minute of the half left Paul Hart made it 2-0.

Wayne Linnett rounded the keeper and unselfishly pulled the ball back into the path of Hart who scored a simple goal.

The second half began with New Brighton attacking but in the 53rd minute Hart tapped home a Dewhurst cross when unmarked on the back post.

Nine minutes later it was 4-0 when Cummins' looped header at the back post dropped into the top corner from Hart's cross.

The goal signalled the end for the gallant visitors and it came as no surprise a minute later when Hart rounded the keeper and shot into the empty net.

It was the striker's second hat-trick in four days and he got the final goal for Town in the 75th minute when his shot hit a defender and deflected into the net.

Town's other scorers against Chester Nomads were Robbie Moore, Canny Cummins, Adam Carden and Ged Bushell.

Runcorn's next match is at home to Mallaby on Saturday at 3pm.
