STUDENTS across South Cheshire were celebrating last week after breaking yet more records in their GCSEs.

It was a familiar story last Thursday when hundreds of 16-year-olds opened their dreaded results envelopes to record-breaking exam results.

Across the county, a record 62 per cent of students scored five or more A* to C grades, and there were a number of fantastic achievers in South Cheshire.

At Brine Leas High School in Nantwich, 67 youngsters gained 10 or more top grades.

Half a dozen students gained a bumper 12 'high' grades, including Anna Wallace's fantastic 12A*s.

In the last 12 months, the school gained its second specialism as a Languages College.

Headteacher Mike Butler said: "We aim to provide all our students with a successful education, and these results show we achieve this year on year and that students are working consistently hard and doing well by themselves and their families."

At neighbouring Malbank School, 25 students gained 10 or more A grades, with 98 per cent gaining five or more passes at an average of seven grade As each.

Top performers included Iain Atkinson with 11A*s and Hugh Upcott-Gill with 10A*s and 1A.

Special praise was also reserved for Stephanie Lensing, who gained straight As and A*s despite only joining the school from Germany two years ago.

Headteacher Allan Kettleday, enjoying his last day at the school, paid tribute to the number of high achievers for producing some of the best results in the country.
