FIREFIGHTERS are warning drivers to take extra care when on the roads due to the changeable weather.
The long period of dry weather followed by large amounts of rain have caused the roads to become exceptionally greasy and make driving conditions more difficult. Recently emergency services have been called to a large number of road traffic collisions.
In the early hours of Saturday, August 19 emergency services were called out to a collision on the A533 Southern Expressway where a car had overturned.
Crews worked hard to help rescue a woman trapped in the car and she was being held in place by her seatbelt. Firefighters believe that the woman's seatbelt had saved her life.
Using state of the art rescue equipment they were able to quickly and safely rescue the woman. She was taken to Whiston Hospital and her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
