SPORTING achievement runs in the family for Vicky and Kelly Jones as they scored great grades in their BTEC National Diploma.

The sisters, members of Liverpool Ladies' Football Club, completed their Sports Development and Fitness course at Riverside College Halton. The 18-year-olds previously played for Tranmere Ladies' Football Club.

They plan to study Sports Leisure and Development with Physical Education at Liverpool John Moores University.

The BTEC National Diploma is the equivalent of three A-levels and is ideal for those who want to go into a career in the sports industry such as coaching or physiotherapy.

Widnes Vikings Academy player Michael Fairclough was another student who did well on the course. The rugby league player, who has played for Great Britain and Ireland, will be going on to Liverpool Hope University to study Sports Leisure and Development.

Meanwhile, mature student Lynsey Field managed to combine part-time work, volunteering at Widnes Vikings, raising her family and studying at the same time.

Her hard work was repaid with a distinction for her BTEC National Diploma and will be going to Salford University to study Sport Rehabilitation.
