MOST university students are never too far from home for parents to do their washing and ironing, but Craig Heenighan won't have that luxury.

That's because he will be at Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, in the US after accepting a scholarship for his football skills.

The 18-year-old, who has captained Cheshire and the England under-18s football teams, has been taken on a sporting scholarship after coaches from American universities came across to the UK to look for youngsters playing at international level.

Craig was one of the students selected and had offers from universities in New York, Ohio and Georgia.

The former Riverside College Halton student gained A-levels in combined English, biology and PE and will major in business at university.

Craig's dad, John Heenighan said: "Craig Has always been very dedicated and put the work in and chose Nova Southeastern because it has good soccer programmes, excellent coaches and is a good university."
