SCHOOLS in Halton are among the top 10 in the country that promote healthy lives to their pupils.
Halton was joint seventh in the table with North Liverpool in the national chart by the Healthy School Programme.
The campaign gives schools the chance to improve the health and well-being of its staff and pupils by teaching them about healthy eating, exercise and emotional health.
The scheme offers schools the chance to gain National Healthy School Status by meeting set standards in four key areas that include personal, social and health education; healthy eating and physical activity.
Already the scheme has proven to be popular with pupils and after the first phase of the programme the feedback from children has been positive with some saying they felt less likely to be bullied, that they had more of a say in the running of the school and enjoyed going to school more.
