AFTER reading the letter from Brian Lee in the World (August 9), I am looking forward to seeing his name as a council candidate in May.
I checked May's election results and couldn't find Brian's name. Maybe he didn't stand because it is so difficult to see where his views are on the issues.
He appears to support the Green Party, whose representatives were against a second Mersey crossing and a refurbished Warrington Road Nursery School.
He would like to see a deal done between the Greens and the Runcorn-based Liberal Democrats.
I should point out that the Lib Dems supported (or at least didn't oppose) plans for the two main issues that the Greens opposed.
Of course they did oppose the Halton Labour Group's initiative to achieve unitary authority status.
If they had had their way, Halton's council taxpayers would have forked out a lot more cash over the past nine years for the poor service we previously received from Cheshire County Council.
Brian should look at the 2006 election results for Ditton ward. He will see that a sustained effort by objectors in Halebank managed to get a Conservative elected for Ditton ward by something like a 29 majority. I never heard any Conservative objections to the Ditton Rail Freight Park.
Which of these three parties will Brian be hoping to represent, if he has the will to stand in 2007?
