A FUN day held to raise funds for a little girl whose dad died 20 days after having a liver biopsy at Halton Hospital, has been hailed a huge success.

The family of Chris Kenny, aged 37, wants to thank everyone who supported the event at St Marie's rugby club.

"Please can you thank everybody who attended and made it a good day," said Chris's sister, Jacky, aged 36. "It raised a substantial amount for Chris's daughter, Taylor, which will be put into an account for when she's older."

Devoted dad Chris died from massive internal bleeding after collapsing 10 days after surgery.

A microscopic needle used to remove a sample of tissue may have nicked his hepatic artery and bled undetected, internally, his family was told.

"They said it was rare, with a one in 10,000 chance of this happening," said Jacky, who organised the family fun day and memorial match on Sunday, July 30.

Former rugby player and scaffolder Chris, of Susan Street, Widnes, was devoted to his wife, Ledina, and daughter, Taylor, aged eight.

"We wanted to celebrate his life and put something away for her future," said Jacky.

Special thanks to Chris's employers QED Scaffolding, which donated two new bikes for auction.

Generous donations were also made by Flangefitt Stainless Steel, Andrea of Crimpers Hair Design, Michelle Stuart, Widnes Vikings, Danny Hyland, Chris Fenlon, Sam and Charlie Clifford.
