A WOMAN was robbed of her purse in broad daylight as she walked alone along a wooded path in Runcorn.

The 25-year-old escaped injury but, according to police, had a 'substantial amount' of cash stolen after a man grabbed her from behind and snatched her purse from her hand.

The mugger had just walked past her on a path at the bottom of Stockham Lane near Halton Sports Centre and Murdishaw Woods when he struck.

He is described as white, aged 30, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build, with short or shaved dark hair and stubble.

He was wearing a grey, long-sleeved hooded top, dark Adidas tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Police say he ran off in the direction of Brookvale and the woman's purse was later found empty nearby.
