A ROOFER has been ordered to pay almost £6,000 after admitting to breaking health and safety rules.

John Michael Rogers, of Rogers Roofing in Gloucester Road, Widnes pleaded guilty to three charges, including one of failing to provide adequate edge protection.

Health and Safety Executive investigators, responding to a complaint that workers were 'bombing' materials from a roof into a skip, also found there was no first aid equipment on site.

The HSE said the prosecution of Mr Rogers, a roofing contractor with 15 years experience, sent out 'an important message to all those involved in work at heights that they must take the necessary precautionary measures'.
